Fall Week 11

Last week we focused on mold making. Tuesday we basically created our mold bases and placed our objects in them. I chose a plastic oil drum for mine.

Then on Thursday it was time to cast the plaster molds. All the short boards were taken, so I had to improvise with a long board and a square base. Some additional clay had to be added to it so that the plaster would better fit and not leak out from the sides. It was incredibly tedious, but so far there was no leakage at all.

Once that was finally done, it was time to mix and pour the plaster in. It was pretty late when I got to pour, and it was a long waiting game for it to dry. It was pretty much hardened by the time class was over, but it still was wet at the top, so I left it over the weekend and now it appears to have turned out perfectly, at least from the top. We’ll have to wait and see what the casted mold looks like soon enough.
